2007

Ok this is my last year of archives.... here is how it went.

2007 was the last year of me as a kiteaddict.. i dunno if i'll ever be as addicted to kiting again.... even now i've basically ditched the social lifestyle of 2008/2009.

Some of the younger guys were getting quite good... especially Blair who along with his older brother Jarrod had just been signed to BEST kites by Lee.  Things were quite tense between me and Lee over me being banned from his forum in late 2006.  I had seriously contemplated switching loyalties and had paid 2007 NZ champ Jamie Barrow a visit at WSP enquiring about his latest gear... and to congratulate him as well on a job well done (Narrowly beating up and coming professional kiter Marc Jacobs).

2007 will mostly be about kiting... i went out quite a bit.  Most of the first half of the year was at rivalry with the likes of Blair, Charl, Brock... all guys half my age and a third of my experience.  Unlike the pitched turf wars of 2004 with the north shore kiters... these guys were sharing the same beaches with me.  I wasn't keen on kiting with them... they pissed me off after posting crap on my bebo page in May 2007 so i started heading up north and kiting Orewa, Shakers etc.... as well as Muriwai.

During the skool hols of winter i had 2 weeks off work and tried to kite but unfortunately skools hols meant that they were kiting too locallly so i tried a few new spots including Cockle Bay and Cornwallis out west.  Did a few drives in storms as well.  Power was cut in the big July storm of 2007... but Cornwallis looked like a great kitespot! haha

In August i went to Pine Harbour after work only to find the young guys kiting there (teachers only day).  Initially wasn't happy but decided to bury the hatchet and had a good sesh despite one of the young guys getting badly hurt in a kiting accident.  Things were all good between us from that point onwards and never really had any genuine issues with other kiters after that.

Socially work was the only real place i mingled with non-kiters.  but it wasn't till really late in the year that i started hangin with the muskateers OUTSIDE of work.  This of course would signal the start of quite a bit change in my attitude... but the trigger for change occured in April of 2008... Ironically when i had my picture on the wall of not one but TWO Maccas stores... but this was 2008.... i've allready talked about that year? haha i can't remember.

As for work in 2007.  Nothing really eventful... i was happily doin maintenance in da morning finishing at noon or 1pm.... worked a treat for kitesurfing.. still no real desire to join nzpost cos i knew that nzpost i'd finish late initially which was a no-no all the whilst i was addicted to kiting... and besides things were great at maccas.... but if those two things deteriorated then things could change... and they did in 2008....
