2006
I started 2006 by having some time off and going down to wellington... to both see my brother and also to do some kitesurfing. had a great time in welly. On my return it was apparent that i was missed bigtime at maccas... at this stage i was probably at my peak at maccas.... kiting was going great and so was work... so at this point of time there was no way i was gonna switch to post.... of course contrast this with July of 2008 which was my lowest point at maccas and of course i had got frustrated with kitesurfing.
got some new gear in 2006 and some young guys were getting inot the sport... started in 2005... pushed further in 2006 these guys would be the top kiters by the end of the year... and with it things got tense between us. This of course was one of the things that eventually would kill off kiting for me (at least temporarily) but initially it only made me keener to nail the new moves and get some credability back (which i never did). Another factor that sparked the decline of kitiing for me was my good friend Tim Friedel hanging up his kite and calling it quits... instead focussing on his surfing. But there was another influence that would eventually take effect... this time on LAND. First there was Jaxx... then there was Eva, Michelle etc etc. They were the final members of the MUCKATEERS and along with Duffy, Calvin and Teena and Bex they would eventually be the ppl i'd hang with and this socialising would increase in late 2007 and 2008 and eventually eclipse my kiting.... which by that stage was fast pissing me off with bad wind etc.
No such problems in 2006 however.... i was as addicted as ever to kiitng. I first met Jaxx whilst on drivethrough... she certainly wasn't the sort of person i'd see myself hanging out with on a regular basis... she was the "old lady with the accent and glasses". I initally thought she was South Africian then found out she was from OZ. 2006 really didn't see much happening between us two but i did start to become friends with her due to the fact that her and Teena would give me free hashbrowns etc... which of course will make me your friend lol. 2007 would see the friendship betwen her and i flourish.
At the end of the year saw the arrivial of a very flirty Phillipino girl. She definately came across as a slut but never saw her as a threat to me personally. Her name was Eva and within the space of a few weeks she had allready made a name for herself at maccas as a flirt... and then some. The first time we met i had just come from celebrating guyfawks with Stipe... i went to maccas and Eva asked me if i wanted to go to Eastern Beach with her.... haha i started thinking the worst but tentatively decided to go along with it. When she sed she would meet me there i sorta relaxed a bit cos at least i could then make a quick getaway incase she tried anything dodgy. I needent have worried.... on arrivial she was there with her new boyfriend Devon... and thats how Devon and i became friends lol. ooops yes i became friends with Eva then too haha. However as both of them left maccas 2007 wouldn't see much happening between me and Eva... and i didn't hang out with Devon at all.
In totally unrelated news i became an uncle... my brother became a dad in June of that year.
So all in all a great year.... but as mentioned before some seeds of change were planted that i reaped in 2008.
