The desire to kite kite kite was right there... i kited the first 3 days in marginal conditions... however on the morning of the 4th day i convulsed in my sleep and popped out my right shoulder. in severe pain i managed to put it back in with my family lookin on. However i was now out of action for quite a while. This meant i had heaps of time to spare and plenty of kiteforums to chat on.
In 2003 i started making a nuisance on kiteforum.co.nz but nothing major happened. This year however i would get offside with most of akls kiters. And kiteforum.co.nz was the way it happened.
I was banned from that site at the end of Jan and then had big arguments with Tim and his mate Lance on Tim's kiteforum as a result. Tim was in Scotland, Lance was in Perth. I had got quite territorial about NZ and took Lance's comments about akl wind as quite offensive. Everyone chose to hate me as allways and they sided with Lance. This immediately got me offside with most kiters north of the Harbour Bridge... but out east i had no such enemies... it was good times. But i was starting to hate kiters in general and as many kiters are Liberals i used that as an excuse to be even more conservative in my politicial beliefs.
Politically i reached my most conservative in the middle of the year where for a few weeks i became a full blooded religious fruitloop who supported the war in Iraq. This was about the time when Hostages were being taken in that country and more notably... being killed. The Nick Berg beheading was quite a news event.... it captivated me knowing that someone was getting their head sliced off with a knife whilst still alive.... that freaked me out and i wondered if i ever would have enuf balls to actually watch the videos... which at that stage were all over the internet.
I had now been banned TWICE from kiteforum.co.nz and now hated virtually all kitesurfers outside of east auckland. I also ranted against homosexuality on kiteforum.com... knowing that it would offend liberals. i basically used my religious beliefs as a blunt instrument against all those who i hated... and hated me.
At Maccas things were getting fiery. In July i allmost got fired for allegedly telling the store manager to fuck off (a false claim as allways). This incidently was the second time i had contemplated getting a job at nzpost. The first time was in late 2003 when i was battling THING 3. In August there was a rumour that i was gonna be trained as maintenance... i was so keen on this new role that i planned to resign and work at nzpost if it was a false rumour. It was NOT false... i was now doing maintenence at least once a week which was great... much better than working crew. The third phase of my time at maccas pakuranga was soon to commence with rumours of it being bought out by some dude from Wellington. Me being from Welly myself i was quite keen on this idea. In october the store was franchised and the new owner from Wellington.... Amon was a very nice person and was quite keen on getting me trained up as both maintenance and a manager. The fact that we were both from Wellington was a big factor haha. Even better was the fact that ex greenlane manager Matt was to become store manager. I got on well with Matt at greenlane so was stoked at this news.
Unfortunately i found the management training to be too hard and once again dropped out of being a manager. However i was now doing maintenaince as well as crew work. However alot of the ppl that existed under the old regime had now left which was great news cos i didn't really get on with them that well.... especially the breakfast manager. Maccas had sudden;y become a whole lot better and i once again shelved my plan to become a postie.
Kiting issues fizzled out and i did most of my kitiing out east and hung with guys like Tim, Joel, Scott and Grant.... this was the old guard and i loved kiting with them. Tim made a few videos of us kiting which are excellent.
After being real conservative in the middle of the year i started watching the beheading vids... tentatively at first but it got to the stage where i started enjoying them and just couldn't wait for the next hostage to get the chop. At this stage i stopped feeling sorry for them and it was more of "well your stupid enuf to go there then you deserve to die haha".
My attitude towards the guys responsible also changed. I started seeing things from their point of view and by now was against the Iraq war. One reason for this was reading a book from a radicial Christian author and pastor... one i guess more from left field (liberal and practicial as opposed to "morals and rules"). His books were quite old (early 1990s) and spoke out against greed and the first Iraq war... which was far more legit than the second one. So i now knew it was ok for a christian to speak out against a war! haha.
So i guess that was when i started becoming more liberal in terms of religion.... i would also eventually become more left wing in regards to politics... once i found out that right wing politics or "capitalism" is very open to abuse.
