1996

1996 was a semi transitional year for me... it was basicially the very very start of my imfamous "10 years of seperation" which didn't really officially start until 1997.

Anyway with Tim and Aaron gone from the church i basically had to sorta start afresh with my mates at church.... not too hard considering that i had Stipe, Craig and the arrivial of 3 brothers from another church who would be huge in da next 10 years at least.  They were Andrew, Phil and Alan Seward.  All 3 were engineers and all 3 fitted into the eastside god squad perfectly.  Then there was Josh who i hung around with HEAPS in 1996.

Got into rockclimbing this year too, and computer games, still doing the gym (i used to go with one of my mates who lived down da road from in Cornelian... Skot Arnold).

So yeah i was quite busy... unfortunately Tech was on its way out... failing terribly this year and dropped out midway through the year.  This also adversly affected my job at Stringer engioneering.  I increased my hours there but still worked part time.   I was now mostly doing task like sweeping the floors and my favourite task there was cleaning the toilets.... haha it was the only thing i was good at.  Me and Puna hung out quite a bit there at work.... she was really cool... we were both christians.  i didn't really get on that well with the other ppl apart from Graham... the old British dude, he was cool.

I was majorly into Doom, Quake and at the end of the year Tim introduced me to Duke Nukem.... man we used to play that stuff all da time.... it was sooo cool.   I was on da modem playing these games with Andrew and tim... Paul wanted to use the internet.... and he used it LOTS..... bloody hell he used to run up some HUGE bills on it haha.  Infact it was my brothers turn to be naughty now.  He used to have his mates around (who were also my mates i knew back at skool) and i remember my mum saying that they blocked DADS driveway,  took up DADS garage, used DADS tools, whilst drinking DADS beer... it was funny.  Dad didn't really mind haha.

Chirch wasn't so bad that year... i still had my issues but way less fiery than previous years... that was my last winter camp though, a sign of things to come... remember i did say that this was a transitional year and the start of something different.

Me and Josh rockclimbed lots, we'd also go bowling and even went to the casino in skycity... it hadn't been open that long either.  Josh left tech at the end of 1995 and worked fulltime in 1996.  for me too 1996 was the year of working cos it was the first year that i was allways employed.  Tim went down to Waikato to study and i totally forgot about him (he got a girlfriend) until one day in October when there was a knock on my door... it was Tim, he broken up with his girlfriend and got into surfing..... this was basically the start of my 10 years of seperation... surfing lead to bodyboarding in 1998, windsurfing in 1999 and kitesurfing in 2001.  When i was fully into those sports i didn't give a shit about anything else.

However i only went surfing once in 1996 and by the end of the year Tim and his gf had got back together... but tim was fully into his surfing... a sport that he never really turned his back on... even when kiting from 2001 to 2006.

At the the end of 1996 things had picked up for me at work... despite me suffering a few injuries (ie when some steel fell on me, putting my tooth through my lip).  The plan was to work fulltime in 1997.
