2002
This year had the potential to be one very very busy year.... i basically wanted to be superman by getting really good at all the sports i was into... which now included kitesurfing, surfing, windsurfing, bodyboarding and kitebuggying. and i also wharfjumped, hung with several mates like Ryan, Stipe, Josh and Andrew. I didn't hang out with Josh much that year though and the following year wouldn't hang with him at all. However hung with Stipe lots and was still a huge fan of the WWE. My main interest though was definately with watersports... was still windsurfing at the start but all forms of windsurfing would cease from August onwards. Didn't go surfing or bodyboarding as much either as in previous years but went buggying quite a bit... infact this had the potential to eclipse kitesurfing as much easier to setup and less condition dependant etc.
As for work yea this was a time of upheaval for me... but it started ok. unfortunately i swapped from graveyard to pregrave shift which was a bad move on my part and really signalled the end for my time at greenlane maccas. I allmost got fired in April after an argument with the manager (one who i normally got on really well with). However i managed to hang on and things improved somewhat once i went back to graveyard work. Unfortunately things unravelled again when i dislocated my shoulder resting on my bad whilst watching WWE. Every Tuesday Stipe would come over and we'd have a feed on munchies and watch the WWE. I was certainly not happy with the very easy means that my shoulder popped out. Anyway this put me out of action for a month. I still worked though but this didn't casue any problems at work... it was something else. When i got back into kiting i decided that it was time to get some new gear.... unfortunately my Suzuki swift which mum gave me in early 1999 failed its WOF... bigtime... terminal rust... worthy only of the scrapheap. This devastated me and i went to sell my kitiing gear... convinced that it was the water sports that casued my car to rust like that. I gto a new car... a station wagon which i have had ever since.... ppl now know of it as "white litening". However things didn't get off to a good start.... after a week the far failed to start at work in the pouring rain... certainly not happy and after getting dad to come in and then the AA i decided that i wasn't happy with working so far away from home and i had to transfer... however i had problems with this means in da past so decided to get another job alltogether.
Scored me a job at foodtown highland park as a nightfiller (stacking the shelves). Sweet job but unfotunately i was slow as i didn't know where everything went and i wasn't used to being the new kid on da block. Anyway i would eventually land me a job at Pakuranga maccas after an ex store manager from greenlane approached me saying she was running pakuranga maccas and wanted to know if i was keen on a job. Of course i was keen. After a month of working at foodtown on much better pay than at maccas i had now started to find my feet at staking shelves... way less stress than maccas but ultimately i wanted to go back to maccas. Whilst the month stint at foodtown was short at least i left there on better terms than at greenlane maccas (there i stormed out on the second to last day due to arguing with some of the crew who were pissing me off... threw a sickie on da last day).
So here i was at a LOCAL maccas... took a $3/hr pay cut to work there as now i was a newbie again i was on da starting rate lol. After impressing with my speed and a things going good for the first 2 weeks... it quickly turned to shit from there.... I was the old man, the experienced guy AND the noob all in one shitty package. Getting bullied around cos of my "dodgy greenlane styles" by ppl 10 years younger than me and a third of my experience didn't impress me at all. to make matters worse the store manager who i knew from greenlane left after a month. And if that wasn't bed enuf i was working evenings (it wasn't 24 hours) which was majorly clashing with summer kitesurfing (wind got up just as i had to work... how shitty was that? bloody hell).
Anyway as expected once new ppl arrived i was no longer the "noob" and it didn't sorta improve a bit by the end of the year.
