2003
The first day of 2003 started with me going to my uncles place to go on his boat.... this was the ONLY time i've ever been wakeboarding... which i found easy due to my kitesurfing skills... basically they are the same thing apart from the obvious difference between a boat and a kite. After that i immedaitely went kitesurfing once i got home.... infact the first two days were holidays for me... and i kited them both... great time. 2003 started well! infact 2003 was the year of the kite for me.... no other year was i ever so into my kitesurfing like this amazing year... 2005 came close but not quite.
In 2002 i was a right winger... gutted that national got thrashed in the general election.... couldn't stand labour despite being on minimum wage.... however i also didn't buy into much of the media hype that many right wing scare mongers spewed up... especially concerning the alleged laziness of certain ethnic groups.... my personal experience at jobs totally showed these media claims to be a crock of shit and if any ethnic group was lazy... it was the white ppl imo. I may have come from a white middle class family and i may have been a right wing religious nut but i also was exposed to the reality as opposed to the TV... and they were two different things. I viewed workers and bosses as being on the same team.... hence why i supported the right wing mostly... other reasons were cos of my religious background... i was (and still am) staunchly against abortion... this is definately in part due to me being a virgin and being against sex in general. I was still religious but didn't once go to church in 2002... the first year ever since i found God in 1991.
These attributes from 2002 continued throughout 2003.... my politicial stance remained unchanged. I respected the greens cos i was enviromentally conscious but hated their social policies. A big test to my right wing stance would come in April when Bush invaded Iraq. Back then things were much more neutral then they are today... with many ppl supporting the invasion.. especially in the early stages when Bush had convinced most ppl that Saddam was giving bombs to Bin Laden etc. I was neutral about the whole thing... didn't know enuf to made an informed decision... in contrast to today of course where i am fully against the war. However there was a small period which i did the unthinkable and SUPPORTED it... but not in 2003.... i hadn't fully embraced the hard right from a religious point of view... YET. another area where i differed from traditional right wing thinking was in regards to marajuana... i supported it... had no issues with it despite not smoking it myself. However as the ppl i had issues with at work were heavy stoners even that stance was under threat from my rapidly rising conservative attitude.
At Maccas there were 3 time periods which had different ppl working there. The first stage was the "stoner stage"... the guys who were there at the start... 17 - 20 years old... loved the bud but also very good workers (yet another stereotype bites the dust). Compared to greenlane there were hardly any noshows, much less stress and things were done fast and efficiently with a laid back attitude at da same time.... similiar to graveyard at greenlane (it was the evening workers and breakfast workers at greenlane who were crap mostly). i mostly felt excluded by these ppl though... i wasn't into anything they were into. However things did improve in the latter half of the year... these ppl either were nicer towards me or left and new ppl came in. However whilst i was finding acceptance amoungst the crew... i still had issues with the managers.... these managers had now come in from other stores. This was now the second stage and a stage that would last for the remainder of 2003 and until October 2004. It was also the period that saw the introduction of the first wave of "new skool friends". I met Bex and Calvin in 2003... the first two members of the "muskateers" faction that dominated 2007 to 2009 for me. Bex was probbaly the first female who i associated with for a long long time... i mostly hung with males but this was the start of a slow but sure change in my social habits.
Other than work I also had to contend with the reemergence of a very unwelcome companion.... THING. Infact from august to november this illness dominated my life.. affecting things from kitiing to work... and made my weight plummet to 68kgs... i was "toned" as a result... something rare for me. As with all mental illness it progressed to some pretty crazy stuff and now the advantages of working with stoners really came into its own.... they totally understood what i was talking about and i was supported brilliantly by maccas pakuranga during my struggle with this illness. The illness was bad.... at one stage thought i was having a heart attack... even called the ambulance at work... it was a false alarm... no heart attack... just yet another panic attack but i was still scared and later on that month (november) i went to a cardiologist where i finally got the all clear.
Problems solved? yeah right i had now defeated THING III but now i had a new demon.... one that i never expected to have major issues with.... KITESURFING... welcome to 2004 ppl
